Dr. Hamdi Mohamed

About

I am the Co-Founder and the Executive Director of KAAFI INTEGRATIVE HEALTH. I am committed to transformative community care practices and creating antiracist, accessible, culturally relevant social services and counselling methods. My experiences of becoming a refugee at a young age and overcoming associated traumas make KAAFI Integrative Health’s work deeply personal and dear to my heart.

A deep commitment to transformative change, liberation, and communal healing has guided my life, work, and research. My traumatic refugee experiences at an early age have inspired me to dedicate myself to creating counselling spaces that provide clients opportunities to express multiple worldviews in their journey to healing, nurturing innovative ideas for transformative social dialogues, imagining new ways of being and working to maximize human potential. I bring deep knowledge and practical wisdom from decades of experience serving in leadership positions in the social services sector, driving organizational inclusive change processes, university lecturing, and leading applied research and evaluation projects to KAAFI Integrative Health.

I am trained in Somatic Experiencing, Emotional Intelligence, and Positive Relationships. My academic research focuses on Afro-Islamic traditional healing practices, African diasporic experiences, community building, and social activism. As a social historian and researcher, I have published several research papers and contributed to numerous scholarly works, including books, international conferences, and seminars. I conducted research in North American, African, and Asian countries. I am also an Islamic leadership paradigm and social psychology student with a research interest in social reconciliation, trauma healing, and indigenous African knowledges.
